Wetzel Named Centennial Conference Player of the Week

HAVERFORD, Pa. –  Haverford College senior Samantha Wetzel has been named the Centennial Conference Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Week, the conference office announced in a release on Monday afternoon.

Wetzel picks up the award after a week in which she averaged 15 points and 10.3 rebounds in three games,, including a key road win over Gettysburg. She tallied a career high seven blocks in a home win against McDaniel and had 14 total blocks for the week. Wetzel is currently seventh in the Centennial Conference in points per game (13.9) and third in rebounds per game (10.4). She is second in the conference with 3.2 blocks per game.

The Haverford career leader in blocks with 230, Wetzel is in the top five in program history in defensive rebounds (524) and field goal percentage (.454) and within the top ten in rebounds (663), field goals made (381) and points (843).

Wetzel wins Player of the Week honors for the first time, but adds the weekly recognition to Women's Basketball Scholar Athlete of the Year designation a year ago and back-to-back All-Centennial Conference honorable mention designation in the previous two seasons.

Haverford returns to Centennial Conference play on Wednesday, January 17 at 6:00 p.m. against Hood Trophy rival Swarthmore inside the Gooding '84 Arena.
