HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College men's and women's basketball teams will host the 18th annual Hoops from the Heart Martin Luther King youth basketball clinic on Monday, Jan. 21, 2019 from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m in the Gardner Integrated Athletic Center.
The clinic, open to boys and girls in grades one through eight, will cover all aspects of fundamental play. Each player will get a complimentary T-shirt with registration. Cost for the clinic is $30 ($20 each additional sibling.) Proceeds from the annual event will benefit the Community Action Agency of Delaware County, which provides services to needy families in our own communities. In addition to operating shelters and daycare facilities for individuals and families, the CAADC also provides many vital services including welfare to work programs and food and fuel assistance.
Players are asked to bring two (or more) non-perishable food items or canned goods to the event. Those donations will be taken to the Life Center of Eastern Delaware County, one of CAADC's emergency housing programs. The Life Center is located at 63rd and Market streets in Upper Darby. The center houses 50 homeless individuals and serves over 150 residents each year. The Life Center also operates a feeding program that serves 200 - 250 people daily.
The clinic will be directed by Haverford College women's basketball coach Bobbi Morgan and men's coach Pat Doherty. The clinic is co-sponsored by the Haverford Township Recreation Department. The annual MLK Hoops from the Heart basketball clinic was founded in 2002. This year, clinics will take place at Haverford College, Neumann University and Widener University, and Cabrini University. To date, the clinics have raised more than $100,000 to help the CAADC.
