BRYN MAWR, Pa. - The Haverford College women's basketball team (1-0) started its 2023-24 campaign strong, as the Fords defeated Rosemont (0-1) in dominating fashion by a score of 80-22 inside Alumnae Gymnasium on the campus of Rosemont College. The Fords capitalized on a 23-0 first quarter and never looked back, securing Head Coach Grace Elliott's second consecutive opening-day win for the Scarlet and Black.

The game was one for the record books, as the win marks the 10th- highest point total scored in school history, matching the same total put up against Rosemont back on March 1, 2019 in the first round of the NCAA tournament. The 32 field goals made on Wednesday were also the seventh highest in school history.

The Scarlet and Black controlled not just the opening minutes, but the opening quarter, as they finished off the first frame up 23-0. Gia Flamini led all scorers in the period with seven points, while Siena Emuobor paced all players with six rebounds at the end of the first. In those first 10 minutes, the Fords shot a remarkable 60 percent and outrebounded Rosemont 12-5.

Haverford kept their foot on the pedal in quarter two, outscoring the Ravens 22-8. Facing a 33-0 deficit, Rosemont's Lakay Holloway cashed in on two free throws to snap the 33-0 scoring run for the Fords. The second quarter also saw three first-year players score their first collegiate baskets, as Shae Mercer, Audrey Jakway, and Lily Zawisny all found nylon.

In the second period, the Scarlet and Black went 10-for-23 in field goals, and held a substantial 18-3 rebounding advantage.

Haverford kept up their impressive performance in the third quarter, outscoring the Ravens 18-2. The scoring did not stop, as Summer Ryan and Mercer hit back-to-back three-pointers to get things started. The 18-2 stretch in the quarter was bolstered by excellent free-throw shooting from Abby Ryan, Zoe Carlson, and Brianna Feifer. Sophie Baker added her first career field goal in the frame.

Despite a much more aggressive offense from the Ravens, the Fords still held the scoring advantage in the fourth quarter, 17-12. A 47 percent field goal percentage helped the Scarlet and Black in the fourth as well as four points from Mercer, four from Abigail Clark and a three-point basket from Giovanna Corbisiero

Ally Landau and Abby Ryan led the Fords with 10 points each, while Emuobor used a significant first quarter on the glass to eventually finish the contest with nine rebounds. Erin Albright was a spark offensively as well, dishing out six assists.

Mojisola Shokeye paced Rosemont in scoring, tacking on ten points, while Myora Slaughter collected nine rebounds for the Ravens.

Next, the Fords return home to Gooding '84 Arena for their home-opener on November, 14. Rolling into town will be the Mighty Macs of Immaculata, with tip-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
