Women's Basketball Falls to No. 11 Johns Hopkins

BALTIMORE - The Haverford College women's basketball team (5-9, 2-7 CC) faced a tough defeat against No. 11 Johns Hopkins (13-1, 9-0 CC) Saturday afternoon at Goldfarb Gymnasium, falling by a final score of 82-33 to complete a busy three-game week.

First-year Shae Mercer emerged as the leading scorer for the Fords, contributing 10 points. Zoe Carlson delivered a standout performance with a career-high and game-best 13 rebounds. Siena Emuobor added eight rebounds, while Abby Ryan contributed five rebounds and three blocks. Erin Albright showcased defensive prowess with a game-best three steals for Haverford.

The game started with Johns Hopkins taking an early 6-0 lead, prompting the Fords to call a timeout to regroup. Audrey Jakway halted the Blue Jays' run with a strong driving layup, but despite Mercer's triple bringing Haverford within 19-7, Johns Hopkins maintained control and ended the first period leading 25-9. Haverford struggled from the field, making just two of 14 attempts in the first quarter.

The second quarter saw Johns Hopkins continuing their strong start with a 21-5 advantage over the next 10 minutes. Erin Albright secured Haverford's first field goal of the quarter with a crafty floater, and Abby Ryan notched a put-back layup at the buzzer. Despite these efforts, the Fords faced a challenging halftime deficit.

In the third quarter, Mercer and Gia Flamini contributed second-chance points, with Flamini making a long-range shot and Mercer sinking a jumper. The Fords added 10 points in the fourth quarter, with Flamini, Jakway, and Lily Zawisny each making contributions to the box score.

Layla Henderson led Johns Hopkins with a game-best 21 points, while Michaela O'Neil and Jadyn Murray added 12 points each in the victory.

Haverford will now return home for a midweek showdown against the rival Swarthmore Garnet on Wednesday, marking the first contest of a home-and-home series with a Hood Trophy point at stake. The game is scheduled to tip off at approximately 7 p.m. inside Gooding Arena, following the 5 p.m. Haverford men's game against Swarthmore.
