Women’s lacrosse hangs on to defeat Washington College, 7-6

CHESTERTOWN, Pa. – The Haverford College women's lacrosse team withstood a late rally by host Washington College to earn a tough 7-6 win in a Centennial Conference clash Wednesday night.

Haverford (9-4, 5-1 CC) is now one win away from clinching a berth in the conference tournament for the second straight season. The Fords first chance to make that happen will come Saturday, April 16 at Franklin & Marshall at 4 p.m.

Haverford came out on fire in the second half, scoring three times in the first 4:04 to grab a 6-3 lead. Josie Ferri scored two of those goals, and Kenny Likes recorded the other.

Washington (10-3, 4-3 CC) cut the gap to 6-5 with the help of unassisted goals, on consecutive shots, by Liza Twilley and Carly Eisenbrandt.

Kayleigh Herrick-Reynolds stopped the Shorewomen's momentum by converting a free-position shot to make the score 7-5 with 7:18 left.

Leah Hammerschlag was strong in the Fords goal, stopping a season-high 11 shots, to earn the victory. Stephanie Seibert recorded eight saves for the Shorewomen. Washington held a 23-18 shot advantage.

In the first half, the Fords trailed 3-1 with 10:26 left. Likes and Perrin Downing both found the back of the net to tie the score at three before halftime.

Ferri led the Fords offense with four points (two goals, two assists). Herrick-Reynolds contributed a goal and two assists. Grace Stockbower recorded a goal and as assists. Likes had a two-goal night, and Downing scored once.

Washington got a pair of two-goal efforts from Mollie Shipley and Eisenbrandt. Rachel Bartee and Twilley also had a goal.
