Ferri selected as Centennial NCAA Woman of the Year nominee

LANCASTER, Pa. - Haverford College's Josie Ferri has been selected as the 2012 Centennial Conference NCAA Woman of the Year nominee, as announced by the conference office Tuesday.

Ferri joins an elite group of student-athletes from across NCAA Division I, II and III nominated for the award. The NCAA Woman of the Year Award is presented annually to a graduating student-athlete who has distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, service and leadership.

Ferri, a 2011 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Third-Team All-American, graduated as Haverford's record holder in draw controls (151), free position goals (43), and shots on goal (264). Continuing her assault on the program record books, Ferri, an  All-Metro Region honoree every year, also set new single-season standards in free position goals (13), draw controls (51) and draw controls per game (3.40).

A four-time All-Centennial Conference team member, Ferri led the Fords in points, goals, shots, draw controls and free position goals four straight seasons.

Ferri's achievements extended outside the lacrosse field as the psychology major was named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team and earned inclusion to the CC Academic Honor Roll in 2010-12.

The native of Yardley, Pennsylvania summarized her passion in life as "helping others and bettering my community" which she illustrated daily at Haverford by her active involvement in community service and campus activities. Ferri, an executive board member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, devoted herself to a myriad of service activities including volunteering with the Big Brother/Big Sister and Special Olympic organizations.

The Haverford College Athletic Department recognized Ferri's multi-faceted achievements by awarding her the Stephen G. Cary '37 Award in May. The Cary Award is presented to the senior student-athlete who made the greatest overall impact on the Haverford College athletic program.

Nine finalists (three from each division) will be honored when the winner is announced at the 2012 NCAA Woman of the Year Awards Dinner in Indianapolis this October.
