ST. DAVID'S, Pa. - The Haverford College women's lacrosse team scored the first 10 goals of the contest on its way to a 23-11 victory over host Eastern University on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at Olson Field.
Converting a pass from Diana Perry, Hannah Morgan opened the day's scoring less than 10 seconds into the contest. Morgan's 14th of the season was just the beginning as the Fords (6-2) poured it on with nine more goals in the first seven minutes of the game. Megan Gallagher tallied back-to-back goals before Morgan added two more of her own. Continuing the trend, Grace Stockbower and Perry also added a pair of goals in the initial surge.
After Victoria Graham disrupted Haverford's string of goals with her 10th of the season, the Fords went right back to work on offense as Kenny Likes and Christina Gould joined the scoring bonanza to push the Haverford advantage to 12-1 with 12 minutes left in the half.
The Eagles (0-7) answered back with five straight but the Fords were far from finished as they scored four of the final five goals of the period to take a commanding 16-7 lead into the break.
The Haverford offense picked up where it left off after intermission by notching four more goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half.
Leading 20-8 with just under 20 minutes remaining, the Fords held the hosts to just five shots over the remainder of the contest to secure their sixth win of the season.
The squad's season-high 23 goals came from nine different scorers. Morgan finished with five and Gallagher contributed a season-high four while Perry and Elyse Adler chipped in with three apiece. Gould, Stockbower and Likes each tallied two. Dayna Kim added her seventh of the season and Annie Kelly scored her first collegiate goal in the second half.
Registering new career highs, Perrin Downing and Kim shared game-high honors in assists with four apiece. Amanda Fleming and Gould each had two while Kelly and Perry contributed one apiece.
Haverford dominated on draw controls throughout the afternoon (27-8) as Fleming and Downing each accounted for six.
Shannon Horn (5-2) earned the victory in goal with a solid first half before giving way to freshman Megan Chenworth in the second.
Julia Furniss and Graham led Eastern with three goals apiece. Cortney Andes (0-7) suffered the loss in net despite 13 saves.
The Fords return to action on Saturday when they travel to McDaniel College for a Centennial Conference contest against the Green Terror beginning at 1 p.m.
