IWLCA Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's lacrosse team is receiving votes in the latest Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches' Association (IWLCA) poll that was released Monday.

The Fords are one of five teams listed as receiving votes outside the top 20. Haverford is the equivalent of No. 21 in the poll. After a tough 13-3 loss to then-No. 7 Amherst College last Wednesday, Haverford defeated then-No. 4 Gettysburg College 11-10 in double overtime on Saturday. The Fords were down 8-1 and 10-6 at different points before roaring back to pick up their Centennial Conference opener.

After Gettysburg took a 10-6 advantage with 15:37 remaining, senior Diana Perry scored four consecutive times to send the game into extra time. Perry scored six times in the second half with her last tally tying the game with just 18 seconds to go.

Haverford's win over Gettysburg was its first over a ranked team since defeating No. 20 Washington College 12-11 on the road during the 2013 season. It's also just the second Centennial Conference loss for Gettysburg to a team other than Franklin and Marshall since the 2002 campaign. The 11-10 win for Haverford is also the first time it has beaten Gettysburg since 1994.

Franklin and Marshall is the No. 1 team in the poll after getting all 20 first place votes (420 points). Trinity College (Conn.) (349 points), Colby College (348 points), Middlebury College (346) and Bowdoin College (315 points) round out the top five. Gettysburg dropped to No. 8 while Centennial Conference foe Dickinson comes in at No. 19 in the poll.

Head coach Lauren Wray's squad is now 5-3 on the season and 1-0 in the Centennial Conference. The Fords wrap up the non-conference portion of their schedule at Rowan (4 p.m.) on Wednesday before traveling to McDaniel on Saturday (1 p.m.).
