Women's Lacrosse Goes to Centennial Conference Tournament

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's lacrosse team (10-6, 6-3 CC) qualified for the Centennial Conference playoffs for the third time in four years. The Fords will host Dickinson College (9-7, 5-4 CC) in the No. 4 vs. No. 5 matchup on Wednesday at 4 p.m. on Swan Field. The winner will travel to play against top seeded Franklin & Marshall on Saturday.

As the top seed, Franklin & Marshall will host the conference tournament while Gettysburg is the No. 2 seed and Washington College is No. 3.

Haverford downed Dickinson in the two teams' only matchup of the year, an 8-7 victory in the snow at Swan Field. The Fords weathered the frosty conditions, jumping out to a 6-1 lead and then holding off the Red Devils, who were then ranked No. 20, in a shortened second half to pick up the win.

Haverford took advantage of their chances, scoring eight times on 11 shots on goal. Goaltender Megan Chenworth wasn't rattled by the cold, making eight saves in the contest. Senior Christina Gould led the team in points with four assists while sophomore Molly Lausten and senior Elyse Adler took care of the scoring with two and three goals respectively.

Adler enters the game with one of the hottest sticks in the conference, scoring 11 goals on 13 shots in the Fords' last two games. She finished the season tied with Lausten with 31 goals to lead the team in scoring. Gould finished highest in points with 43, including 30 assists. Junior midfielder Sarina Manetta topped the team in ground balls (45) and draw controls (32) while finishing second in caused turnovers (22) only to Claire Cote (25). In goal, Chenworth finished third in the conference in total saves (117) with a 44.5% save percentage.

The Red Devils boast a steady defense that caused a Centennial Conference-leading 108 turnovers in conference games this season and solid time of possession evidenced by their 123 draw controls which ranked second. Their leading point getter is freshman Anne Dunster who scored 29 goals and added 20 assists. Her best game of the season came in a win at No. 14 Messiah when she scored four goals and had three assists.

The Fords finished the month of April with a 6-2 record, including notable wins over Muhlenberg (which was receiving ranking votes coming into the contest) and Dickinson. Six of Haverford's eight games were decided by two goals or less.

This year marks the fifth time in program history that the women's lacrosse team has qualified for the Centennial Conference playoffs.
