Season Review: Women's Lacrosse Back in Postseason

Season Review: Women's Lacrosse Back in Postseason

Signature Wins: The Fords opened the month of April with three crucial games against teams they battle on an annual basis for playoff positioning. However, the tough non-conference slate prepared the team well for those three games in eight days as the Fords won all three against McDaniel, Muhlenberg and Dickinson. The Mules came into the contest receiving votes in the IWLCA Poll, while the Red Devils were the No. 20 team in the country at the time. Making the win against Dickinson even more memorable was the snowy conditions that the game was played in as the Fords were victorious after 48 minutes of play.

It was a balanced team effort that fueled the victory as Haverford jumped out to a 6-1 lead just over 24 minutes into the game. However, the nationally-ranked Red Devils came all the way back to tie the game at seven with just under eight minutes to play. With both goalies battling adverse weather conditions, it was Molly Lausten who beat the Red Devils defense with just 58 seconds left on the shortened clock. The turnover that put the game-winning goal in motion was caused by Sarina Manetta. Maura Grant secured the final draw control of the game to make Megan Chenworth's eight saves stand up in the win.

Season Notes: For the fifth time in seven years, Haverford won at least 10 games … Haverford has now made the Centennial Conference Tournament during each of the past two seasons and three of the last four seasons under head coach Lauren Wray … Sarina Manetta was named second-team IWLCA All-Region, marking the eighth straight season a Haverford player has garnered all-region accolades … The Fords placed a program-record 13 players on the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll to lead all conference schools

Looking Ahead: Haverford returns five of its seven players who scored at least 10 goals this season. That list is headlined by first-team All-CC performer Sarina Manetta (23 goals, 11 assists in 2016). Molly Lausten will also be back after scoring 31 goals in 2016. Madison Jones, a second-team All-CC pick on defense this season, will also return to anchor a defense that will graduate goalie Megan Chenworth as one of six key players from the team's Class of 2016. That graduating class also featured Christina Gould who earned second-team all-conference honors after leading the team with 31 assists.
