Women's Lacrosse Places Four on All-Centennial Teams

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Centennial Conference announced its All-Centennial Conference women's lacrosse team on Tuesday afternoon, and the squad features three representatives from Haverford.

Senior co-captain Sarina Manetta was named to the conference's first team while sophomore Allie Gibbons and junior Madison Jones were both named to the second team.  Senior co-captain Averi Gaines was named to the Centennial Conference All-Sportsmanship team.

Manetta, a two-way midfielder, was named First Team All-Centennial conference for the second straight season, adding her second consecutive first-team plaudit to an honorable mention honor during her sophomore campaign in 2015. Haverford has now had a total of 19 all-time Centennial Conference first team selections.

Manetta had a stellar senior campaign, tallying a career-best 40 goals and 48 points while winning 64 draw controls. Her 40 goals included three game-winners. The Commack, N.Y. product set new career single-game highs in points, goals, draw controls and free-position goals during the 2017 season.

Twice-named Centennial Conference offensive player of the week in 2017, Manetta picked up the honor after posting a career-best six goals and seven draw controls against Christopher Newport in February. Manetta repeated the weekly honor in her final contest for Haverford, capping her career with five goals in a home win over rival Swarthmore, including the 100th goal of her career, with seven draw controls in what ended as a  20-15 triumph over the Garnet.

In 2017, Manetta set a new single-season program high in draw controls (64) and draw controls per game (4.00). Manetta leaves Haverford in the top five in program history in draw controls (3rd), games played (4th) and shots on goal (4th).

Gibbons had a breakout campaign for the Fords, helping key the offensive production for Haverford in 2017. Gibbons finished third in the Centennial with 53 goals and sixth in the conference with a 69.7 shooting percentage. The attacker from Baltimore, Md., scored a career-best six goals against McDaniel on March 25. Her 53 goals this season were good for the 11th-most in a single season in Haverford program history. Entering her junior season, Gibbons has 71 career tallies.

Jones was one of the top defenders in the Centennial Conference, causing 14 turnovers while scooping 17 ground balls on the season. This is the second straight All-Centennial Conference selection for Jones, who caused multiple turnovers on three occasions in 2017, including three against Christopher Newport on Feb. 25.

Gaines appeared in five games for the Fords, tallying a pair of goals against Bryn Mar (Apr. 26) and tallying one each against Randolph Macon (Mar. 4), Kenyon (Mar. 6) and Eastern (Mar. 16).  The  Raleigh, N.C. product was a unanimous team captain selection in 2017.
