HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's lacrosse team has been named an Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Association (IWLCA) Academic Honor Squad, the organization announced in a release on Wednesday afternoon. In addition, eight Fords were named to the 2017 Zag Sports Division III Academic Honor Roll.

Haverford was one of 300 squads from across Divisions I, III, III and the NAIA selected as IWLCA/Zag Sports Academic Honor Squads for the 2016-17 academic year. In order to qualify, programs must have posted a 3.0 or higher team GPA during the academic year. The Fords join fellow Centennial Conference members Bryn Mawr, Dickinson, Gettysburg, Muhlenberg, Swarthmore and Washington College in garnering the plaudit.

Last season, Haverford was awarded the designation of IWLCA Merit Squad after finishing with the top GPA amongst all Division III programs in the nation. IWLCA Merit Squads are expected to be announced in early August.

Senior Courtney Carter, Claire Cote, Averi Gaines and Lucy Koch were all named to the honor roll, joining juniors Grayton Downing, Madison Jones, Alyssa Sherman and Kate Sollee. To be selected to the honor roll, student-athletes must be a junior, senior or graduate student and have accumulated a GPA of 3.50 or higher. Carter, Cote, Gaines and Koch each picked up the honor for the second straight season.  

Haverford led the way in the Centennial Conference with its eight recipients. The total was tied for the third most in Division III trailing just Rhodes College and Catholic University. In total, the IWLCA honored 531 student-athletes from 156 institutions in Division III.

Haverford concluded the 2017 season at 8-8, the fifth consecutive year the team has finished at or above .500. The Fords led the conference in honorees on the Centennial Honor Roll, placing a program-record 14 members on the squad.

In addition, Sarina Manetta and Allie Gibbons were both named to IWLCA All-Region honors, marking the ninth straight season a Haverford player has picked up all-region honors. The two honorees on the IWLCA squads was the most for Haverford since 2013.
