Senior Maggie Perkoff shows her dedication and enthusiasm for Haverford College on and off the field.
As a Computer Science and Linguistics double major, she has
nurtured her passion at Haverford. Maggie has also been interested
in creating software that will help make it easier for those with
physical and mental disabilities to communicate with the world
around them.
A recent course taught in coordination with Gallaudet
University, a university for deaf students in Washington D.C., made
a positive impact on her when the class visited the university.
During the visit, Maggie found she could not communicate with the
people around her as they signed with each other. The situation
provided perspective for Perkoff. “It made me realize that
this is how people who are deaf must feel in situations where they
are surrounded by people speaking,” said the senior women's
lacrosse player.
With her interests in Computer Science and Linguistics, Maggie
tutors both subjects sharing her love of both with those around
her.
When asked about her time with the women’s lacrosse
team, Perkoff said "I love the sense of friendship and community
that has come from being on the lacrosse team.”
One of her favorite traditions is getting excited before games
with the team in the locker room. The women’s lacrosse team
has been lucky enough to travel for Spring Break for the past few
years and Maggie believes that traveling has brought the team
closer together because of the exciting nature of traveling to new
places together.
This past summer, Maggie worked as a Software Development
Engineering Intern for Amazon. She is still in the interview
process for opportunities in the field of software development
after graduation.
