Volleyball sweeps through Saturday opponents at Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury Invitational closed out play on Saturday with the 22nd-ranked Fords earning a pair of victories to improve their season record to 12-1.

Haverford and Richard Stockton went the distance in the first match of the day. The Fords jumped in front with 25-22 and 25-20 victories in the first two sets but Stockton evened the match with 25-21 and 25-19 wins of their own before HC would cap the victory with a 15-9 fifth set win.

The match against Allegheny College was much quicker for the Fords who took the 3-0 win in straight sets (25-22, 25-13, 25-22).

Rebecca Salvo led the Fords attack in both wins registering a team-high 16 kills in the win over Stockton and a team-best 12 against Allegheny. Rachel Salvo added 19 kills on the day while Kelsey Cantwell chipped in with 10 against Stockton and Olivia Coburn-Flynn joined the attack leaders against Allegheny with nine kills.

Kate Comey was stellar in setting up the offense in both matches registering a combined 82 assists for the Fords.

Defensively, Jenine Abbassi and Coburn-Flynn each finished with four solo blocks over the pair of victories.

The nationally-ranked Fords hit the court next week in back-to-back matches welcoming Centennial Conference foe Ursinus College to Gooding Arena on Tuesday, September 22, followed by a trip to No. 3 Juniata College on Wednesday, September 23.
