All-America honors find three from volleyball

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Rachel Salvo, Rebecca Salvo and Kate Comey of the Haverford College volleyball team were named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America Team Tuesday evening. Rebecca Salvo was named second-team while Rachel Salvo and Comey were named honorable mention.

Rebecca has now collected four straight All-America awards. Last season she made third-team, as a sophomore she got the nod for second-team and in her freshman season was named honorable mention. In 2009 Rebecca led the Centennial Conference with 446 kills and was second with 3.54 per set. Defensively, Salvo led the conference with 523 digs while averaging 4.15 per set.

This is the second time Rachel has been voted to the honorable mention team as she earned the accolade as a sophomore. Rachel averaged 2.92 kills and 3.17 digs this season. Her 353 kills were fourth-best in the Centennial. Rachel finished the season with 383 digs and was one of just four players in the conference with at least 330 kills and 330 digs.

Comey was the conference leader in assists (1,386) and assists per set (11.00) for the second straight year. Her 11.00 assists per set were also fifth-most in Division III. With her precision at setter the Fords offense averaged a Centennial-best 13.48 kills per set and led the conference in that category the two years she has run the offense.

In addition to All-America honors, the trio was named AVCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region last Thursday.
