Volleyball wins Buttermaker Tournament with 3-1 victory over Mules

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – For the second time in as many weekends the No. 22 Haverford College volleyball team won a two-day, four-match tournament. This time at the Muhlenberg Buttermaker Tournament with a victory over the host Mules in Saturday's championship by a 3-1 (19-25, 25-18, 25-15, 25-14) score.

Haverford (9-0) dropped the first set, but rallied to win the next three. Jenine Abbassi led the team with 14 kills and seven blocks. Rebecca Salvo had 11 kills and a team-high 21 digs. Kelsey Cantwell, who was named MVP of the tournament, also had 11 kills to go along with 17 digs. Rachel Salvo posted 10 kills and 10 digs while Kate Comey handed out 46 assists and made five blocks. Caitlyn Tranquillo helped the defense with 13 digs.

The Fords got to the championship by defeating Massachussetts Institute of Technology, 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-21) in the morning. Rachel Salvo amassed 10 kills and 11 digs. Rebecca Salvo and Cantwell each had nine kills while Rebecca Salvo led the defense with 14 digs and Cantwell had 11 and four service aces. Abbassi added seven kills and Tranquillo had 11 digs.

Haverford will be in action next weekend at the Salisbury Invitational Tournament. On Friday the Fords take on Baldwin-Wallace College at 6 p.m. and host Salisbury University at 8 p.m.
