Volleyball rolls past Ursinus in three sets

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The No. 21-ranked Haverford College volleyball team opened up Centennial Conference play with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-14, 25-16) victory over visiting Ursinus College on Tuesday evening. Haverford hit .256 as a team, connecting on 37 kills while holding the Bears to a -.011 hitting percentage.

Haverford (13-1, 1-0 CC) led for the entirety of the first and third sets and only allowed Ursinus (4-8, 0-2 CC) to lead once in the second frame. The Fords jumped out to a 6-0 advantage in the first set thanks to two service aces by Kelsey Cantwell. The Bears got within four points, but HC again reeled off six points to put the set out of reach.

After Ursinus took a 2-0 lead in the second, the Fords took the next eight points. In that span Caitlyn Tranquillo served four aces. Tranquillo had seven aces in the match and a team-best 17 digs.

Rebecca Salvo led the Scarlet and Black with 12 kills. Cantwell added nine and Rachel Salvo had eight kills and hit .500. At the net, Haverford held the Bears to just 18 kills and forced them to commit 19 errors. Olivia Coburn-Flynn tallied six blocks for HC. As a team, the Fords had 9.0 blocks.

The Fords will be in action on Wednesday when they travel to No. 2 Juniata College at 7 p.m.
