HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The No. 24-ranked Haverford College volleyball team took a step towards its goal of playing deep into the NCAA Tournament with an impressive 3-0 (25-12, 25-13, 25-18) victory over Richard Stockton College in the first round of the NCAA Regional at Juniata College Thursday afternoon. The Ospreys took Haverford to five sets earlier this season, but the Fords squashed any thoughts of that early on.

Haverford (31-3) put forth a very good defensive effort, holding the Ospreys to just 22 kills and a .020 hitting percentage. The Fords combined for five blocks and were led by Olivia Coburn-Flynn's three block solos. Richard Stockton (27-12) was held to just eight kills in the first set and seven each in the second and third sets.

Rebecca Salvo led the way with 12 kills and 12 digs to go along with a .600 hitting percentage. Rachel Salvo added eight kills and eight digs while Kelsey Cantwell tallied nine kills and seven digs. Coburn-Flynn connected on seven kills and hit .429. Kate Comey handed out 30 assists.

Large runs in the first two sets aided the Fords in cruising to the win. A late 4-0 run in the opening set that included a kill and two service aces by Rebecca Salvo gave Haverford a 24-11 advantage. In the second the Scarlet and Black held a 3-2 advantage, but four consecutive points gave HC a sizeable lead. A 6-0 run that saw four Stockton attack errors put the set out of reach.

The Fords will take on No. 23 Eastern University in the second round Friday at 4:30 p.m. The Eagles defeated Frostburg State University, 3-1, in the first match of the day. The Fords defeated Eastern, 3-2, back on Oct. 3.
