Volleyball stays perfect with sweep of Owls

BRYN MAWR, Pa. – On  a rare Monday evening match, the Haverford College volleyball team made the most of its trip across Lancaster Avenue by defeating Bryn Mawr College, 3-0 (25-12, 25-21, 25-11), at Schwartz Gymnasium in Centennial Conference play. Haverford made 55 digs on defense and held the Owls to a measly .071 hitting percentage to stay perfect in conference play.

Haverford (26-3, 8-0 CC) hit just .240 as a team, but recorded 17 more kills than the home team. The Fords tallied six aces while Bryn Mawr (8-15, 0-9 CC) served six errors.

Rebecca Salvo was the only player to reach double-digits with 14 kills while hitting .364. She added 12 digs for a double-double. Kelsey Cantwell contributed seven kills. Cantwell and Rachel Salvo both had a match-high 13 digs. Jenine Abbassi's eight kills were good for a .583 hitting percentage. She also had four blocks.

Katie Merrill's seven kills led Bryn Mawr. Emily Takeuchi-Miller and Katie Solook led the defense with 12 and 13 digs, respectively.

The Fords host Swarthmore College Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. and close out the regular season at McDaniel College Saturday at 1 p.m. Haverford has already clinched a playoff spot and is now playing for the regular season title and the right to host the conference tournament.
