Volleyball makes quick work of opponents at Osprey Classic

POMONA, N.J. – The Haverford College volleyball team recorded a pair of sweeps Saturday afternoon at the Osprey Classic. Haverford defeated host Richard Stockton College, 3-0 (25-18, 27-25, 25-15), then downed Gwynedd-Mercy College, 3-0 (30-10, 30-13, 30-10) in the day's second match.

Laura Ramos tallied a team-high 17 kills and hit .424 versus the Ospreys. Kelsey Cantwell recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 13 digs while Kate Comey had 37 assists. The defense was led by Haley Lowrance's 14 digs and Jenine Abbassi's six blocks. As a team the Fords registered 8.5 blocks.

Haverford (3-4) had 15 service aces against Gwynedd-Mercy. Abbassi led the way with six and Caitlyn Tranquillo added four to give her six for the day. Cantwell hit .429 to go along with 10 kills and seven digs. Lowrance led the defense with eight digs.

The Fords head to DePauw (Ind.) University next weekend for the two-day Tiger Invitational. The Scarlet and Black face a tough task Friday as they take on No. 2 Juniata College at 2 p.m. and top-ranked and defending national champion Washington (Mo.) University at 4 p.m.
