Volleyball falls to top teams in country at Tiger Invitational

GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The Haverford College volleyball team faced the top-two teams in the nation Friday afternoon at the DePauw (Ind.) University Tiger Invitational. The Fords fell to No. 2 Juniata University, 3-1 (25-15, 23-25, 25-15, 25-21), and top-ranked and defending national champion Washington (Mo.) University, 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-23).

Laura Ramos led the way for Haverford (3-6) with nine kills versus Juniata. Caitlyn Tranquillo led the defense with 13 digs while Hayley Lowrance added 10. Olivia Coburn-Flynn had four block assists, Jenine Abbassi added a pair of block solos and one block assist and Kate Comey had two block assists.

Lowrance registered a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs against Washington. Ramos tallied eight kills while Kelsey Cantwell recorded seven kills and four block assists. Tranquillo once again led the team with 13 digs.

The Fords continue at the Tiger Invitational Saturday, facing Rose-Hulman (Ind.) Institute of Technology at noon. Haverford's second match will be at 2 p.m. and its opponent will be determined by the results of Saturday's four morning matches.
