Volleyball sweeps Lynchburg to close out tri-match

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College volleyball split a tri-match Saturday afternoon at Gooding Arena. The Fords lost to No. 2 Juniata College, 3-1 (25-20, 12-25, 25-21, 25-20), but followed that up with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-14) sweep of Lynchburg College.

Haverford (6-9) played the Eagles tough the entire match, holding Juniata (14-1) to just a .197 hitting percentage and Drew Barnhart (12) was the only Juniata player to reach double-digits in kills. A big reason the Eagles could not generate much offense was due to Haverford's net presence. The Fords tallied 10.0 team blocks and three individuals had at least four. Jenine Abbassi had six blocks and Laura Ramos registered a team-best five block assists to go along with 12 digs. Caitlyn Tranquillo led the team with 15 digs.

On offense, Ramos led HC with 13 kills and Kelsey Cantwell contributed 12. Olivia Coburn-Flynn added seven kills and hit a team-best .438. Hayley Lowrance had a solid all-around match with eight kills, eight digs and four service aces.

Against Lynchburg (8-6), the Fords took it to their opponent from the get-go and did not let up. Haverford tallied 35 kills and 11 service aces while forcing the Hornets into 18 attack errors and just a .056 hitting percentage.

Ramos and Cantwell led HC with 10 kills each. Ramos hit a team-high .375. Cantwell added 10 digs and three service aces. Lowrance led the team with four service aces.

The Fords hit the road Wednesday to take on Muhlenberg College in a Centennial Conference match at 7 p.m.
