Volleyball to host Dig for a Cure match Oct. 30

For the fifth straight year Centennial Conference volleyball teams are joining together for the Dig for a Cure campaign. Haverford College's defensive dig total from its Saturday, Oct. 30 match against McDaniel College will be used to raise money for Living Beyond Breast Cancer (LBBC).

At Haverford's three home matches prior to the Oct. 30 match, donations can be made to the campaign. A donation jar will be in the lobby of Gooding Arena during these matches.

In five years of the Dig for a Cure campaign, the Centennial Conference volleyball athletes and coaches have joined together to raise $36,948.30. In 2008, a record $12,486 was raised by the 11 institutions. The total amount raised by the schools will be announced at the Centennial volleyball championships Nov. 6-7, 2010.

LBBC was founded in 1991 by radiation oncologist Marisa C. Weiss, MD, in response to a woman's need for breast-cancer-related information, connection and support after completing treatment. LBBC has expanded to assist women at all stages of diagnosis, treatment and recovery. Their mission includes offering specialized programs and services for the newly diagnosed, young women, women with advanced breast cancer, women at high risk for developing the disease and African-American and Latina women.
