Volleyball puts away LVC, 3-1

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College volleyball team held on for a hard-fought 3-1 (25-21, 30-28, 22-25, 25-23) victory over Lebanon Valley College Thursday evening at Gooding Arena. The Fords were led by Haley Lowrance's career-high 19 kills and Kate Comey's career-high 60 assists.

In addition to Lowrance, three other Haverford (8-9) players reached double-digits in kills. Kelsey Cantwell had 15, Laura Ramos followed with 12 and Jenine Abbassi tallied 11 kills and no errors for a .550 hitting percentage. The Fords also added 12 points via services aces. Comey led the way with four and Lowrance had three. Ramos led the defensive effort with a career-high 22 digs. Caitlyn Tranquillo had 18 digs while Cantwell and Comey registered 13 apiece.

Emily Hopkins (14) and Joelle Snyder (12) were the only Lebanon Valley (11-5) players with at least 10 kills. Emily Perkins handed out 45 assists to help the offense to 55 kills. The Dutchmen held an 86-76 advantage in digs thanks to four players in double-digits. Jess Raber led the team with 16.

In the second set, the Fords battled back from a four-point deficit to go ahead, 21-20. The set went back-and-forth until consecutive kills from Cantwell and Olivia Coburn-Flynn put it away.

The fourth set was going in favor of the Dutchmen until a Ramos kill tied the score at 18-all. Consecutive HC kills gave the hosts a two-point lead but LVC tied things up before a pair of errors gave Haverford a lead it would not relinquish. Cantwell and Coburn-Flynn once again provided late kills to clinch the match.

Haverford travels down Interstate 95 Saturday to take on Johns Hopkins University at 5:30 p.m. The Blue Jays sit at 3-0 in the Centennial Conference while HC is 2-0.
