Women’s volleyball drops a pair of tough matches at Haverford Invitational

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's volleyball team fought hard in its first matches of the season at the Haverford Invitational, however, the Fords a pair of non-conference decisions Saturday at in Gooding Arena. The Fords fell to the Coast Guard Academy 3-2 (23-25, 25-20 , 25-16, 7-25, 15-8) and Bluffton University 3-1 (20-25, 25-23, 25-23, 27-25).

Against Coast Guard (1-0) outside hitter Laura Ramos paced the offense with 13 kills and added 21 digs. Middle hitter Jenine Abbassi recorded 10 kills. Setter Haley Lowrance had a double-double with 31 assists and 14 digs. Libero Sarah Brody pitched in defensively with 17 digs. For the Lady Bears, outside hitter Keriann Mason led the way with 19 kills and 11 digs. Setter Karen Matic had 38 assists.

Ramos had a team-high 10 kills against Bluffton (1-0). She added 14 digs. Lowrance had 31 assists and 10 digs, while Brody recorded a match-high 19 digs. Outside hitters Jenna Eshleman and Nicole Wood paced the Beavers with 15 kills each.

Haverford looks for its first wins of the season on day two of the Invitational. The Fords take on California Lutheran University at noon and Bethany College at 2 p.m.
