Women’s volleyball back on track after 3-1 victory over Stevens

HOBOKEN, N.J. – Middle hitter Olivia Coburn-Flynn tied her career-high with 11 kills to lead the Haverford College women's volleyball team to a 3-1 (25-18, 18-25, 25-22, 25-23) victory over host Stevens Institute of Technology in a non-conference match Wednesday night in Canavan Arena.

Haverford (3-6) middle hitters Jenine Abbassi and Emily Mills recorded nine and eight kills, respectively. Outside hitter Laura Ramos was the defensive leader with a match-high 13 digs. She also had seven kills. Setter Haley Lowrance tallied 32 assists.

For Stevens (5-6), outside hitter Maggie Kowalska had a match-high 15 kills. Outside hitter Kate Janes had eight digs, a team-high, and six kills. Setter Andrea Bucko recorded 28 assists.

Behind early strong serving, including a pair of service aces from outside hitter Madison Fuelling, the Fords jumped out to a 6-1 first set lead. The advantage got as high as 12 in the opening set at 21-9. After dropping set two, Coburn-Flynn recorded a team-high four kills in a hotly-contested third set. In the final set Ramos (four), Coburn-Flynn (three) and Mills (three) combined for 10 of the Fords' 14 kills. Haverford jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the deciding set.

Haverford travels to Maryland for a non-conference tri-match Saturday, September 17. The Fords take on host Salisbury University at 1 p.m. and York (Pa.) College at 3 p.m.
