Women’s volleyball drops 3-2 heartbreaker to Gettysburg

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Setter Haley Lowrance recorded  her first career triple-double, however, it was Gettysburg College that was able to pull out a hard-fought 3-2 victory over the Haverford College women's volleyball team in Centennial Conference play Tuesday night in Gooding Arena.

In the match Lowrance had 39 assists, 16 digs and 13 kills to become the eighth Division III player to record a triple-double in 2011.

Fords' outside hitter Laura Ramos recorded her team-leading eighth double-double of the season with 30 digs and 13 kills. Middle hitter Jenine Abbassi paced the team in kills with 16. Emily Mills added 10 kills. Defensively, outside hitter Madison Fuelling (19), defensive specialist Jordan Scolaro (13), libero Sarah Brody (12) and outside hitter Caitlyn Tranquillo (11) all reached double-figure digs.

For the Bullets (13-6, 3-0 CC) outside hitter Virginia Hogan (18 kills, 16 digs),  right-side hitter Katie McConville (22 digs, 12 kills) and setter Lizzy Kuhn (29 assists, 15 digs) all had double-doubles. Middle hitters Cydney Bracken and Sarah Gorski recorded 17 and 16 kills, respectively.

The loss snaps Haverford's (7-9, 2-1 CC) 30-match regular season Centennial winning streak. The streak began on Oct.  1, 2008 with a 3-1 win at Muhlenberg College.

Tonight's match opened with the two teams trading 25-22 set wins with Haverford taking set one and Gettysburg claiming victory in set two. Haverford trailed for a majority of the third set but pulled out a 27-25 win. The Bullets won the final two sets 25-22 and 16-14.

Haverford goes right back to work with a Centennial Conference match against visiting Ursinus College Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. in Gooding Arena.
