Three and out for Fords in win over Bryn Mawr

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Host Haverford College battled Bryn Mawr College Wednesday night in a Centennial Conference volleyball contest with the Fords taking a 3-0 decision over the visiting Owls on the Gooding Arena floor.

Haverford (10-11, 4-2 CC) trailed Bryn Mawr (9-14, 3-4) only twice, by one point each time, in a 25-22 game-one win, then never trailed during a 25-21 game-two victory in rolling to a hard-fought 2-0 lead over the Owls.

Bryn Mawr broke out to early three-point leads on four occasions to threaten the Fords in game three, however, eventually stretching the lead to 11-6. After tying the score at 13-13 and then again at 15-15, Haverford's Madison Fueling's kill put the Fords ahead 16-15 and the team never looked back in its 25-21 match-clinching game three triumph.

The Fords' Laura Ramos registered a match-high 14 kills and added 17 digs to earn a double-double in the victory. She contributed a pair of service aces, including one at 13-13 in the final game, as well.

Haley Lowrance accumulated a match-high 36 set assists for Haverford and picked up nine digs and a service ace while Fueling, with 10 digs, trailed only Ramos in that defensive category. Caitlyn Tranquillo was the match-leader with three service aces for the Fords.

Mikecia Witherspoon led the Bryn Mawr attack with 13 kills in her team's losing efforts.

The Fords travel up the Main Line Friday to Eastern University for their next outing, a 7 p.m. non-conference match-up against the fifth-ranked Eagles. Haverford travels to Westminster, Md., the following day for a 1 p.m. Centennial contest against host McDaniel College.
