Fords win instant classic in Main Line match-up at Cabrini

RADNOR, Pa. – In an instant Main Line classic, Haverford College rallied from the brink of defeat to take down host Cabrini College, 3-2, in a non-conference volleyball battle Tuesday evening.

After opening the night with a 28-26 game-one victory, Haverford (12-12) dropped the next two games, 25-21 and 28-26, to the Cavaliers (19-10) who entered the night on a seven-match win streak.

With their backs to the wall, the Fords rolled through game four, never trailing and opening an eight-point lead on five occasions, with a 25-17 win to force a deciding fifth.

In the finale, Cabrini broke out in front early but Haverford worked back to a 10-10 tie. The Cavaliers earned the next point but the Fords won five of the next six points -- capped by Emily Mills' service ace -- to earn the hard-fought win over their Main Line foes.

Laura Ramos posted a match-high 24 kills along with a team-high 21 digs for Haverford. Three other Fords reached double-figures in digs as Madison Fueling (17), Sarah Brody (16) and Caitlyn Tranquillo (15) joined Ramos in keeping Cavalier attacks from reaching the floor.

Mills finished with 14 kills to aid the offensive attack which was set up by Haley Lowrance's 49 set assists. Lowrance also posted six of the Fords' 13 service aces in the match.

Haverford will travel to Chestertown, Md., Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. Centennial Conference match-up against the host Shorewomen. The regular season concludes Saturday at home in Gooding Arena in a tri-match with Swarthmore College and Elizabethtown College.
