Season Review: Volleyball gains invaluable experience

Signature wins: The Fords had several memorable moments in 2013 including undefeated weekends at the Susquehanna (University) Tournament (September 7-8) and the University of Massachusetts Boston (October 12-13). No moment was brighter, however, than Haverford's 3-0 sweep of visiting Johns Hopkins University on October 18. Meg O'Day paced the offense with 14 kills and Keri Godbe added 12 as the duo accounted for 26 of the Fords' 37 kills on the night. Godbe also chipped in with a team-high 13 digs against the eventual conference champion Blue Jays.

Season Notes: The Fords reached the 20-win mark for the second consecutive season … Haverford recorded the second most wins in the conference (21-7) which included a 6-4 Centennial Conference record … The Fords ranked first in the conference and ranked 64th nationally in hitting percentage (.215). They also finished among the national leaders in digs per set (25th, 18.51), kills per set (34th, 12.82) and assists per set (40th, 11.75) … Keri Godbe and Meg O'Day topped the Centennial in points with 479 and 442, respectively. The duo also ranked 1-2 in total kills as Godbe tallied 437 and O'Day registered 365 … Godbe paced the team with 403 digs which ranked fifth in the conference … Nina Mutty registered a team-high 40 service aces while also finishing second on the team in digs (363)… Olivia Walsh ranked first on the squad and seventh in the conference with 578 assists … O'Day set a program-record single-match hitting percentage of .727 (16 kills, 0 errors, 22 attack opportunities) against Ursinus College on October 2 … Godbe earned a spot on the all-tournament team at the Haverford Invitational on the opening weekend of the season … The Fords' undefeated weekend at the University of Massachusetts Boston included three wins over regionally-ranked teams.

Looking Forward:

Haverford will boast a seasoned, veteran lineup next year as head coach Michele Benoit returns her entire roster from 2013. Rising seniors Madison Fuelling and Sarah Brody, and all-conference honorees Meg O'Day and Keri Godbe, aim to lead the Fords back to the Centennial tournament.
