Volleyball Records Fourth Straight Sweep in Win over Moravian

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College volleyball team picked up its fifth win in a row as it defeated the Moravian Greyhounds for the second time this season 3-0. The Fords have now won nine home matches, surpassing their mark from last season. 

Haverford scored a 25-10 win in set one. The Greyhounds had 10 errors in the set and were held to a -.049 attack percentage while the Fords had 11 kills and a .310 attack percentage. 

The Fords jumped out to a 12-6 lead in set two before the Greyhounds rallied for five straight points, cutting their deficit to one at 12-11. Haverford kept Moravian at bay before tallying eight of the final nine points to take a 25-17 victory in the set. 

The home team completed the sweep with a 25-17 set three win. The Fords raced to a 13-3 lead and never looked back as the Greyhounds finished with a -.122 attack percentage in the set and a -.027 attack percentage for the match. 

For the first time under head coach Michele Benoit, the Fords held two consecutive opponents to a negative attack percentage. 

Junior Meg O'Day extended her streak of consecutive matches with at least ten kills to 32 with a team-high 11 kills. Junior Nina Mutty had 11 digs and eight kills while junior Keri Godbe had a match-high 14 digs. Freshman Zoe Wong had a team-high 12 assists in the victory. Mary Zacher had eight kills and Megan Szkolnicki had a match-high 18 assists in the loss for Moravian. 

It's the 10th win in the last 11 matches for the Fords as they improved to 15-7 overall this season while the Greyhounds fell to 11-14. Haverford has a week off as it travels to Muhlenberg in a battle of undefeated teams in the Centennial Conference next Thursday at 7 p.m. Haverford, Muhlenberg and Swarthmore are each 5-0 in the conference. Haverford leads the all-time series vs. Muhlenberg 16-9, having won 12 straight matches from 2002-12.
