Volleyball Finishes Haverford/Swarthmore Invitational

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Haverford College volleyball team dropped two matches during day two of the Haverford/Swarthmore Invitational today, falling to the Carnegie Mellon Tartans, 3-0 (25-18, 25-10, 25-10) and to the Salisbury Sea Gulls, 3-1 (25-22, 25-23, 22-25, 25-19).

Junior Valentine Courouble and senior Meg O'Day paced the Ford' offense with six kills each vs. the Tartans. Senior Keri Godbe and freshman Natalie Pisch also added five kills each in the loss. Freshman Zoe Wong (10) and junior Olivia Walsh (nine) had 19 combined assists. Lauren Mueller had a match-high 12 kills for Carnegie Mellon in the win.

The Fords dropped a close battle to the Sea Gulls, losing the first two sets by a combined five points. Courouble set a career high in the loss with 13 kills and a .367 attack percentage. Godbe posted a double-double with 20 digs and 11 kills. In the match, Godbe (1,234) passed Lauren Nuyen '08 (1,231) for fifth on the all-time kills list. Wong had 22 assists in the loss. Katie Stouffer led all players with 20 kills in the victory for Salisbury.

The Fords finished the Haverford/Swarthmore Invitational with a 2-2 record. Carnegie Mellon was crowned the champion after going 4-0 while the Tartans' Jackie Gibbons was selected as the MVP. Godbe was named to the all-tournament team after finishing with 48 digs and 36 kills in the Fords' four contests.

After finishing the tournament, Haverford will now travel to Elizabethtown on Wednesday before a tri-match vs. Kean and St. Lawrence on the road next Saturday.
