Volleyball Sweeps Bryn Mawr, 3-0

HAVERFORD, Pa.– The Haverford College volleyball team (7-7, 4-3 Centennial) posted a three-set sweep of the visiting Bryn Mawr Owls (3-14, 0-8 Centennial) on Wednesday night at Gooding '84 Arena. The set scores for the match were 25-16, 25-16 and 25-14. Haverford was paced by a career-best five solo blocks from Kaylynn Mayo and a 12-kill night from Natalie Pisch, who posted a career-best .500 hitting percentage.

In the first set of the night, Haverford sprinted out to a 12-7 lead after a block from Julia Gallagher-Teske, a stop that extended her Centennial Conference lead in the category. Bryn Mawr called timeout and was able to cut the lead to 14-12 with a Caroline Cosby service ace.  Haverford went up 20-15 with a block from Hailey O'Mara and  Gallagher-Teske and took all but one of the remaining points in the set to win 25-16 behind an O'Mara run from the service line.

The second set finished with the same score as the first, with Haverford grabbing the reigns with a 15-10 lead that forced Bryn Mawr into a timeout after an attack error. Sara Matsumura oversaw a run that stretched the Haverford lead from 15-11 to 21-11, as Elena Garcia punched down a pair of kills in the sequence.  Haverford let up just a bit, as the Owls cut the lead to 21-13 with a Cosby kill and a ball handling error from Abby Keller. The Fords went back on the offensive to finish the set at 25-16 behind three kills from Pisch in the final points.

The third set was tied at 6-6 before Haverford jumped out to an 11-6 lead with Pisch at the service line. A service ace and a pair of kills from Valentine Courouble aided the hosts in the stanza. Haverford powered ahead to lead 17-10 and Garcia was instrumental with a pair of kills, including the salvo that made the score 22-11 in favor of the Fords. A Garcia kill made it 23-13, while a Camille Baechler service error ended the match in favor of Haverford, 25-14.

Zoe Wong had 28 assists while Keller added four in the three-setter. Maddie Becker had 20 digs. For Bryn Mawr, Baechler and Cosby led the way with four kills each. Kira Ogoshi had seven assists and libero Allie Nagelski chipped in 11 digs.

Haverford returns to action with a tri-match on Saturday, featuring a conference showdown against McDaniel (3-4) in a rematch of the 2015 Centennial Conference Championship game.The Fords will also host Baruch College in a non-conference match.

The contests are part of Senior Day, as the Fords honor Valentine Courouble, Elena Garcia, Abby Keller and Kaylynn Mayo before the noon match with McDaniel.
