HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College volleyball team has been picked fifth in the Centennial Conference preseason poll, the conference office announced on Tuesday morning. The preseason poll was decided solely by a vote of the conference head coaches. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams.

Haverford received 65 points and was predicted to make the conference playoffs for the 17th time in the last 18 seasons. Johns Hopkins was picked to repeat as conference champions with 96 points and seven first place votes. Swarthmore took home 93 points and three first place tallies. Muhlenberg was picked third with 76 points while Franklin & Marshall was fourth with 73 votes and one first place tally.

Following Haverford was Gettysburg (56 points), McDaniel (46 points), Dickinson (40 points), Washington College (31 points), Ursinus (17 points) and Bryn Mawr (12 points).

Last season, the Fords finished 17-12 (7-3 Centennial) in Drew Hargrave's first season as head coach. The campaign represented the fifth straight season with at least 15 wins. The Fords reached the semifinals of the Centennial Conference tournament before falling to Swarthmore.

The Fords must replace graduated seniors co-captain Valentine Courouble and Kaylynn Mayo as well as Elena Garcia and co-captain Abby Keller. Haverford will return All-Centennial setter Zoe Wong as well as freshman Julia Gallagher-Teske, who finished near the top of the Centennial Conference in blocks and blocks per set. Wong and Natalie Pisch will look to captain a young team to another potseason berth.

Haverford opens up the season at the Haverford Invitational hosting Rowan and Stevens on Saturday, September 2 before facing off with John Carroll and #9 Mary Washington on Sunday, September 3.
