Why did you choose Haverford?
I chose Haverford to not only continue playing volleyball, but also because of the small, close-knit community and the high academic standards. Coming from such a large high school, I was a little nervous about going to school with a small population size, but this community is one of the most supportive and friendly I have ever been around. I also wanted to be challenged intellectually, but what I have come to appreciate here is the collaborative environment that is fostered between me and my peers.
What do you love about the sport you play?
My favorite part of volleyball is the fact that no point, play, or situation is ever the same. While the game always continues in the same fashion, there is no predicting what will come in the 25 points of the set, or the 5 sets of a match. It is consistently fast paced and energetic, and you are constantly working as a team with others who have different talents and specialties from you. I really enjoy the flow of the game, and how momentum at any point the match can switch in your favor. I have been taught that volleyball is "a game of mistakes" and while I think this is totally true, I like to think of it as a game of opportunity as well.
What does a student athlete mean to you?
Being a student means to me means that I am a part of something outside of myself, and I am representing my college athletics as a whole.
What advice would you give a high school student considering Haverford?
The idea of picking a college can be really scary, and is totally normal to be apprehensive about making a decision about where you want to spend 4 years, especially when you want to play in college. Haverford is such a supportive and great environment to grow, that you will have the room to find who you are while preparing yourself for the rest of your life.
