Four Picked as CSC Academic All-District Selections for Volleyball

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College volleyball team had six players selected by the College Sports Communications (CSC) as honorees on the CSC Academic All-District team, the organization announced in a release earlier this week. Brown, who was named to the Centennial Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll, saw the floor in all 25 matches for the Fords in her sophomore season, competing in 83 sets. The San Francisco Calif. product placed third on the team in total attacks with 497 and finished fourth on the team in kills with 148, blocks with 34, and points with 169. The sohpmore recorded a season-best four kills in three separate games and punched down double-digit kills in five games this season. The outside-hitter totaled a season-high 13 kills twice in 2023, at Washington College on October 11, and against Ursinus on October 25.

A Centennial Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll member, Potocnjak appeared in all 25 matches for the Fords, with 86 sets played. The sophomore led the team and was ranked seventh in the conference with 73 total blocks and 0.85 blocks per set. She paced the team in block assists with 62 and was second on the team in total blocks with 11. Hailing from Gilbert, Ariz. Potocnjak, had five games with five blocks or more, and had a season-high seven blocks against Ursinus on October 25. The rightt-side/outside hitter recorded 10 or more kills in two contests in 2023, and collected a season-best 12 kills vs. Rutgers-Camden on September 9.

Jones followed up a decorated 2022 season by capturing First-team All-Centennial Conference honors, as well as being named to the Centennial Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll. The middle-blocker saw the floor in all 25 matches for the Fords, competing in 89 sets. She led the team, Centennial Conference, and ranked 12th in the nation, with a .387 hitting percentage, and ranked fourth in the conference in total attacks with 468. The Yorba Linda, Calif. native paced the team in kills with 207, and had seven games with double digit kills, most notably spiking down a season-best 18 kills against DeSales on October 7. She finished second on the team in blocks with 63 and blocks per set with 0.71, prominently posting a season-high eight blocks vs. Messiah on September 9.

Grabbing a spot on the Centennial Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll, Young ended the 2023 season earning an Honorable Mention All-Centennial Conference recognition. Aside from claiming a Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week award on September 12, the junior paced the Fords and finished third in the Centennial Conference with 460 digs, including having 12 games of 20 digs or more. The Guilford, Conn. local collected a substantial 44 digs in her second game of the season against Stockton on September 1, and saw a three-game streak of 20 or more digs from Oct. 7 to Oct. 11… The libero placed third on the team in assists with 73, and produced nine assists in two separate games in 2023 against Washington College on October 10, and Ursinus on October 25.

The 2023 Academic All-District® Volleyball teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes volleyball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced Jan. 9, 2024. 

The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA governance structure.
