Centennial Conference Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford College student-athletes shined throughout spring season with a number of dazzling athletic performances. On Thursday, the Fords were honored for their prowess in the classroom. In addition to leading the conference in student-athletes named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll, Haverford student-athletes claimed Centennial Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors in five of the eight spring sports that Haverford sponsors within the Centennial Conference.

Centennial Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors are awarded in each sport to a member of the junior or senior class with the highest cumulative GPA on the All-Centennial Team. Ben Frost became just the 11th player in conference history to win this award twice across All-Centennial Conference sports. Frost won the award for men's lacrosse in addition to being recognized as the William W. Ambler '45 Award recipient for having the highest cumulative grade point average among all Haverford senior student-athletes. Four others will have the chance to join Frost on that list next year as Brandon Jenkins (baseball), Ashley Sisto (softball), Kevin Yan (men's tennis), and Clara Farrehi (women's tennis) all took home scholar-athlete of the year honors following standout junior campaigns.

Ben Frost, a chemistry major, garnered All-Centennial Conference recognition for the second straight season. Frost was also an honorable mention recipient a year ago and came back in 2019 with career highs in goals (24), assists (8), points (32), shots (98), and shots on goal (54) from his spot in the midfield. Frost started all 15 games during the regular season for Haverford. Always a threat on man-up chances, each of his three man-up tallies came in Centennial Conference play to rank sixth among his conference peers. He scored 14 of his 24 goals during conference play and added half of his assists during that same time.

Brandon Jenkins, an economics/mathematics double major, took home an honorable mention nod after emerging as a shutdown lefty in the Haverford bullpen after transitioning from a starting role earlier in his career. He appeared in seven conference contests and racked up four saves in 17 innings of work. Jenkins struck out 17 batters and held opponents to just a .197 batting average. He did not allow an earned run in those appearances and surrendered just one extra-base hit in a Centennial game. Jenkins notched saves in three of his final four conference outings as his four saves overall were the most for a Haverford reliever since Patrick Falkoff '14 had seven during his senior season.

Ashley Sisto, a chemistry major, earned All-CC recognition for the second time in her career with second-team honors. Sisto, the everyday centerfielder for the softball team, was previously an honorable mention pick during her rookie campaign. She earned Centennial Conference Player of the Week honors during the final week of the regular season to help the Fords clinch the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament. That hot finish helped her finish the conference season with a .354 batting average. Sisto scored 11 runs during the 16 game conference slate and was 12-of-13 on stolen base attempts. She recorded six of her eight doubles against conference foes and drove in nine of her 14 runs during that same time.

Kevin Yan, an economics major, teamed up with Centennial Conference Player of the Year Josh Moskovitz to form the No. 1 doubles team for men's tennis. Earning first-team All-CC honors in doubles, that pairing went 13-10 together (7-1 CC) and had regionally-ranked wins against Southern Virginia and Swarthmore after advancing the regional quarterfinals during the fall. That duo is currently ranked 14th in the Atlantic South Region. In addition to earning his second all-conference nod in doubles, his first on the top team, Yan also became a three-time All-CC selection for singles. The 2017 Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year was named a second-team representative in singles this spring after going 16-9 overall, including a 7-2 mark in conference singles at No. 2 in the lineup.

Clara Farrehi, a chemistry major, teamed up with fellow co-captain Emily Shutman to form the No. 1 doubles pairing for women's tennis. Farrehi earned all-conference recognition for the first time in her career as she joined Shutman in receiving second-team All-CC accolades for their doubles play. Playing No. 1 doubles together, Farrehi and Shutman were 5-5 in Centennial Conference play. Four of that duo's five wins during the regular season came in matches during which Haverford's captains allowed two or fewer games. Farrehi also played No. 3 singles and tied for the team lead with eight victories. She was a team-leading 7-2 in Centennial Conference singles play during the regular season.
