Haverford defeats Philly Cricket Club on PCC grounds

PHILADELPHIA – Haverford College's cricket team recorded its second win of the season by downing Philadelphia Cricket Club, 177-112, on PCC's home grounds.

The Fords batted first gaining strong contributions from Sameep Thapa (24 not outs), Danny Rothschild (18), Leanard Thomas (29), Brian Rafferty (27), Jake Hazen (14) and Matthew Smith (23) reaching 177 runs for the loss of five wickets in 25 overs.

The host club scored only 112 runs in its allotted 25 overs for eight wickets. Chris Spaeth, with 50 not out, and Fred Levin, with 12, were the only batsmen who reached double figures for PCC.

Leanord, the Haverford captain, was the most successful bowler taking three wickets for 14 runs. Rafferty took two wickets for 15 runs, Thapa took one for nine, and Alisa Strayer took one for 19. Rina Ntagozera also bowled well in helping the team achieve a comfortable victory.

Haverford continues fall season action with home matches on both days of the upcoming weekend. British Officer's Cricket Club comes to Cope Field on Saturday at noon, and the University of Pennsylvania's cricket club visits Sunday at noon.
