Haverford caps season at Cricket Festival

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College cricket team closed out the season by competing in the Philadelphia International Cricket Festival.

Here are the summaries of the Fords' final five matches of the annual festival.

5/1: Royal Automobile Club (RAC) from London, England beat Haverford 93-105 in Haverford's second match of the Philadelphia International Cricket Festival. Royal Automobile won the toss and elected to bat first. Senior Neilay Shah took the crucial early wicket of Royal Automobile's opening bat Nick Havers. However, RAC's order was too strong for the Fords, with its No. 3, Sanjay, scoring a blistering 43 (retired) in his innings. The Fords put up a brave attack in their innings, but the superior experience of RAC prevailed.

5/2: West Haven beat Haverford 81-83 in Haverford's third match of the Philadelphia International Cricket Festival. Haverford won the toss and elected to bat first. Coach Kamran Khan top-scored with 23 runs. Captain Shah had the best bowling figures, taking 1 wicket for 20 runs as Haverford faltered in the run chase.

5/2: Commonwealth beat Haverford 112-114 in Haverford's fourth match of the Philadelphia International Cricket Festival. Haverford won the toss and elected to bat first. Senior Andriy Mshanetskyy high-scored for the Fords with 31 runs, helping set a competitive total of 112 runs for Commonwealth to chase. Freshman Chris Garling had the best bowling figures for the Fords, with a personal best of 3 wickets for 18 runs. However, the experienced Commonwealth team prevailed over the young Fords, with many on Haverford's roster having only just picked up the sport.

5/3: Indoor Cricket beat Haverford 101-118 in Haverford's fifth match of the Philadelphia International Cricket Festival. Haverford lost the toss, and was asked to field first. Nick Trickett had the best bowling figures for the Fords, taking 2 wickets for 13 runs in his 3 overs. Senior Mshanetskyy high-scored for Haverford with 27 runs.

5/4: Sarasota from Florida beat Haverford 88-89 in Haverford's final match of the Philadelphia International Cricket Festival. Haverford won the toss and elected to bat first. Freshman David White set a personal batting record with an unbeaten 19 runs for the Fords. Sarasota's high-scorer was the West Indian international Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who scored 25 runs.
