British Officers' Cricket Club wins by 4 wickets

The Haverford College cricket team dropped a closely fought contest to the British Officers' Cricket Club, 112/6 to 111/9, on Saturday afternoon at Cope Field.

Haverford won the toss and elected to bat first in a 25-over contest with senior captain Ty Joplin opening the batting with junior Chris Hadad. Joplin began positively with elegant strokeplay, but found himself at a loss for batting partners with Haverford losing a few early wickets. The arrival of junior captain David White to the crease stabilized Haverford's innings. In a partnership that counted for over 70 runs across some 100 balls, White and Joplin combined for a tour de force of a batting display. Joplin combined elegance with power as he unleashed his cover drive to great effect, with the stroke bringing two fours within the same over. The senior captain later went to the leg-side with fours coming off monstrous pull shots through the midwicket region. Joplin completed his half-century with 50 runs coming off 66 balls, including four fours.

Junior David White provided able support in the stand, contributing 18 runs off 30 balls and found the extra cover boundary with a sweetly timed drive. Freshman Charlie Lynn was in good touch lower down the order, contributing 10 runs along with his own four through the covers.

Haverford's bowling kept the game competitive, but found itself short against a very strong British Officers XI. Despite taking wickets and bowling an aggressive line and length, Haverford found itself just short as the British Officers clubbed the winning runs in the penultimate over of their innings.

Match Scoreline:
Haverford College: 84/9
Malgudi Cricket Club: 85/5
Malgudi Cricket Club win by 5 wickets

Haverford fell to an impressive Malgudi Cricket Club lineup in Sunday's match. Coming off Saturday's strong batting performance, Haverford's top order faced off against some of the quickest bowling faced this season. Sophomore Raghav Bali anchored the innings with a well composed 20 runs from 43 balls, and he found able support in senior Daniel Waranch who produced 10 runs off 20 balls.

The Fords found their way to 84 runs by the end of the innings, but against a fire-power filled Malgudi lineup, it proved to be short of what was needed. Haverford's bowlers made the game a contest, with junior Chris Garling delivering a masterclass in bowling, taking two wickets at a cost of only 11 runs. White similarly took two wickets, but it was not enough to stave of the loss as Malgudi Cricket Club crossed the finish line.
