Men's squash comes up short to Drexel

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Haverford College men's squash team traveled to Drexel Thursday night and gave the No. 29 Dragons a battle before falling by the score of 8-1.

Chris Tyson, playing at No. 4, grabbed the lone win for the 43rd-ranked Fords, as he outlasted Harshil Dokania 11-8 in the final game of a five-game thriller. Head Coach Niki Clement pointed to Tyson's smart shot selection and mental composure throughout the match as keys to his winning performance.

Haverford (2-13)  made Drexel (6-8) work for every point as several Fords suffered narrow losses. Co-captain Zef Konst, at No. 3, had a strong showing in an 11-7, 12-10, 11-8 defeat to Nick DiDonato. Despite the loss, Clement praised Konst's well-thought-out points within each game. Charlie Michele at No. 5, "continually pushed Ben Bevan into the back corners throughout his match which allowed him to play aggressively in the front with a fast-hitting pace," offered Clement. Michele dropped the first two games of the match before digging deep to seize a 13-11 victory in a tight game three. Bevan finished the match with a win in game four in spite of Michele's best efforts.

The Fords welcome rival Swarthmore to the Gardener Integrated Athletic Center for a 10 a.m. contest on Saturday.
