Spiliotes playing in squash's national individual tournament

AMHERST, Mass. – Senior Alex Spiliotes of the Haverford College men's squash team is closing out his final collegiate season on a high note having earned an invite to the College Squash Association (CSA) 2012 Individual Championship tournament hosted by Amherst College on Friday through Sunday, March 2-4.

Spiliotes, 7-10 on the year in the No. 1 spot for the Fords, will compete in the Molloy Division. The Pool Trophy seeds the top 32 players into a tournament bracket with the Molloy hosting select players ranked 33rd and higher.

Friday's start to the tournament pits Spiliotes against freshman Mohamed Abdel Maksoud from the University of Rochester.

A three-year player for the Fords' program, Spiliotes compiled a 23-20 career mark which includes his senior season as the team's top player.

Haverford is no stranger to the individual championship as Diehl Mateer '50 captured the Pool Trophy in both the 1948 and 1949 tournaments.
