HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford College's men's squash team rallied from the brink of defeat Saturday afternoon in a 5-4 victory over visiting Johns Hopkins University as Chris Tyson notched the winning point in the third spot following Charlie Michele's tying victory at No. 5.

The 31st-ranked Fords (7-4) trailed the 28th-ranked Blue Jays by a 3-0 count after the opening three matches. Laurenson Ward got the ball rolling for Haverford with a nail-biting 3-2 win at No. 6 over Anderson Liu.

After Liu captured game three to forge ahead 2-1, Ward pounded out an 11-3 game-four win to pull even then battled to a 14-12 win to earn Haverford's first point.

Nathan Vestrich-Shade (3-2) and Jonathan Nguyen (3-1), at Nos. 4 and 7, respectively, picked up the next two points to erase Hopkins' initial advantage.

A Blue Jays victory at the No. 1 spot edged the visitors to within a point of the match victory, but Michele rolled to a 3-1 win over Aditya Mithal to set the table for Tyson whose commanding 3-0 win over Hopkins' Janvier Chalopin closed out the rally.

Earlier in the day Haverford was downed, 9-0, by No. 7 Franklin & Marshall College.

The Fords, who jumped 11 spots in the latest College Squash Association rankings, play host to No. 21 Drexel University for their next match. Haverford and the Dragons square off on the GIAC Squash Courts Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
