McComas gears up for CSA individual tournament

HARTFORD, Conn. – Senior Andy McComas has been invited to participate in the College Squash Association (CSA) 2013 Men's Individual Championship hosted by Trinity College beginning Friday, March 1 and running through the weekend.

McComas will play in the 64-seed Molloy Cup (B Division) which is comprised of players ranked 33rd or higher in the national individual rankings. The Pool Trophy (A Division) tournament consists of the top 32 players in the country.

The opening match for the McComas will come against Nick Marks from Williams College. Friday's 9:45 a.m. match-up will be the first time either player has competed against an opponent from the other institution.

The individual championships are set up as double-elimination tournaments. Should McComas win his opening match he would advance into the round of 32 where he would take on Trinity's Moustafa Hamada on Friday at 3:30 p.m. in the round of 32. A loss to Marks would push McComas into the consolation bracket which is not yet scheduled, but the match would also occur Friday afternoon.

The round of 16 and the quarterfinal round plays on Saturday, with the semifinals and final on Sunday.

During his four years at Haverford McComas compiled a career record of 23-34 playing in the No. 1 spot for the Fords in all but nine matches. He played exclusively at the top rung of the team's ladder in his freshman, junior and senior years.

McComas just completed competition at the CSA team championships where the Fords -- who captured the F Division's Serues Cup in 2012 -- played in the D Division's Conroy Cup, moving up two divisions into the top 32 teams at the championship tournament.
