Men's Squash Sweeps Final Homestand of the Year

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's squash team ended the home portion of its 2014-15 season with victories over the Swarthmore College Garnet (9-0) and the Boston College Eagles (5-4).

Seven of the Fords' ladder positions did not drop a game in the team's victory over its Hood Trophy rival. Junior Nathan Vestrich-Shade lost just six points in games two and three in his sweep at the No. 1 position. Junior Laurenson Ward also cruised, losing just three points in the first two games of his three-game win. Junior Will Greer, sophomores Chris Hoogstraten, Aaron Horwitz, freshmen Zach Cole and Shilin Jog also took down their opponents in three games.

Freshman Peter Dudley recorded his 10th win in his four-game conquest. After winning game one in convincing fashion (11-1), the freshman picked up a 13-11 victory in game two, but suffered a 12-10 loss in game three. Dudley rebounded with an 11-8 triumph in game four to score the point for the Fords. Freshman Benjamin Soloway scored his first victory of the season, winning in four games at the No. 9 position.

Haverford College 5, Boston College 4

The Fords recorded points at the No. 1-4 and No. 6 ladder positions. Vestrich-Shade, Horwitz, Ward and Dudley did not lose a game in their matches. After battling in the first two games, Vestrich-Shade took the final game 11-1 while Horwitz lost just nine points in his victory.

After Robert Bohn tied the match at the No. 6 position at two games each, Cole came up with a tightly contested 14-12 win to tally a point for the home team. Three of the five games were decided by two points.

Colton Hardman, Bill Hickey, Elliot O'Brien and Robbie Fischer were victorious for Boston College in the loss. Fischer, despite winning in three, had to battle freshman Shilin Jog in games two (11-9) and three (11-9).

Dudley won his team-high 11th match of the season in the win over Boston College. Cole also reached the double figure mark with his 10th win of the year. Ward matched his career high with his ninth win of the season in the contest.

The Fords improved their record to 10-7 on the season. Their 10 wins this year are the most since the 2006-07 campaign. Haverford will now wait to find out its rank in the Dunlop Men's College Squash Rankings. The rankings will determine who the Fords face in the College Squash Association Team Championships (Feb. 20-22).
