Men's Squash Begins Play at Pioneer Valley Invite
AMHERST, MASS. – The Haverford College men's squash team began play at the Pioneer Valley Invitational today (Jan. 15). In their first match, the Fords fell to the Hamilton College Continentals, 8-1 before losing a tough 5-4 decision to the Connecticut College Camels in the night cap.

Hamilton 8, Haverford 1

Sophomore Zach Cole registered the only point for Haverford with a 3-0 sweep over Hamilton's Jonathan Ruth. Cole was victorious in game one (12-10) and then followed with an 11-5 victory in game two. Looking to close the match, Cole scrapped out an 11-9 triumph in game three.

The Continentals took home the first two points before Cole's victory. Hamilton clinched the victory with wins in the fourth, fifth and sixth matches of the contest. Senior Alex Egilman nabbed a win in game three of his match, but lost in four. Senior captains Laurenson Ward and Nathan Vestrich-Shade also suffered defeat in four games.

Connecticut College 5, Haverford 4

The Camels picked up the first three points of the match at the No. 3, No. 6 and No. 2 positions. Freshman Alex Liu got Haverford on the board with a five-game victory (No. 9). Liu won games one (11-5) and two (11-9). After an 11-5 defeat in the third, the freshman lost a tight 14-12 fourth frame before rebounding with an 11-5 win in the concluding stanza. 

Connecticut College continued with its advantage, winning at the No. 5 position, taking a 4-1 lead. Vestrich-Shade kept Haverford alive, taking down his opponent in the final two games to win in four. Trailing 2-1 in his match, freshman Yash Singh rallied for an 11-7 conquest in game four. Connecticut College's Matt Lillie collected the clinching point for the Camels, winning game five, 11-7. 

Egilman dropped just one game in his victory while Ryan Dukarm posted a sweep, losing just six points in the first two games. Senior Will Greer was a four-game winner in the exhibition match.

Haverford fell to 4-6 on the season. Head coach Niki Clement's squad gets back in action tomorrow with matches vs. Hobart (12 p.m.) and Smith (2:30 p.m.) on the campus of Smith College.
