Men's Squash Defeats Denison, Falls To Dickinson

CARLISLE, Pa. – The No. 30 Haverford Men's Squash team registered a split on Sunday at Dickinson, besting the Denison Big Red in a neutral site contest, 5-4, before falling to the host No. 21 Red Devils, 9-0. Haverford has now matched its win total from a season ago, pulling its record to 10-5 after the split.

No. 30 Haverford 5, Denison 4

Haverford was locked in a close battle with Denison throughout the afternoon. Benjamin Soloway was swept by Luke Friedman (11-8, 11-7, 11-8) in the first match to reach completion at the nine spot on the ladder. The Fords pulled even in the second match at the sixth spot on the ladder as Zach Cole was able to dispatch Graham Poole (11-6, 12-10, 9-11, 11-2). The third match to reach completion featured Yash Singh taking down Drew Lavine at the number four position (11-9, 9-11, 11-9, 11-5). Singh is now 10-5 on the season thus far.

In the second round of matches, Shilin Jog pulled away from Elliott Adland (8-11, 14-12, 13-11, 11-8) in a eighth position match that saw two games go to extra points. Jog's victory gave Haverford a 3-1 advantage. The fifth match saw Tate Miller locked in a showdown with Alvaro Magana at the number two position. Miller prevailed with a marathon 16-14 win in the first game and an 11-9 win in the second. Magana rallied back but Miller pulled away in the fifth and final game, taking a 11-5 win (11-9, 9-11, 9-11, 11-5) for a 4-1 lead.

Alex Liu fell to Fernando Magana (11-8, 6-11, 11-5, 11-3) to hand Denison a game back in the fifth position on the ladder. Ryan Durkarm then took down Sam Evarts in a sweep to clinch the match for the Fords at the number seven spot (11-5, 11-7, 11-4). Dukarm sits at 10-4 on the season thus far following the day of action.

After victory was assured for Haverford, Aaron Horwitz was defeated by Ariel Cohen (11-2, 9-11, 11-6, 11-9) at the number three spot and Ziad Elmandouh got the best of Peter Dudley in four games (11-8, 11-13, 11-6, 11-3) after Dudley pulled even with a second game win that required extra points.

No. 21 Dickinson 9, No. 30 Haverford 0

Haverford was felled by No. 21 Dickinson, 9-0, in the second match of the day. The Fords received great efforts from Aaron Horwitz, who pushed Alexander Wattles to a fourth game in the third position. Horwitz dropped the first game 11-5, but rallied back to win the second 11-9 before falling 11-5 in each of the final two game. In the ninth spot on the ladder, Benjamin Soloway took an 11-7 win in the second game against Samuel Portelance to force a fourth game.

Haverford will close out the regular season in the next two weeks, facing Georgetown and No. 11 Navy at the GIAC Squash Courts on Saturday, February 4 before hosting Boston College and Bucknell on February 11 to wrap up regular season action at home.
