Men's Squash Posts Victories over No. 32 Fordham, Boston University

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The No. 28 Haverford College men's squash team notched an 8-1 victory over No. 32 Fordham before returning in the late afternoon to down Boston University by a 9-0 final. Haverford begins the season with a 3-0 record for the second consecutive campaign after a third consecutive perfect run at the Navy Round Robin.

In the first match with the No. 32 Rams of Fordham, Haverford began with Aaron Witkin securing victory over George Holiat at the ninth spot on the ladder (11-5, 11-1, 11-3). The second match to finish was Tate Miller's as the junior grabbed a win at the third flight over Tommy White (11-3, 11-2, 11-3). Alden Weinberg picked up the third win for the Fords, taking down Justin Deckoff at the sixth flight in a four-game battle (11-3, 7-11, 11-8, 11-9).

Fitz Dougherty made his 2018-19 debut, taking down Griffin Fitzgerald at the second flight in a quick 11-4, 11-0, 11-2 decision to give the Fords a 4-0 advantage. The match was clinched by senior co-captain Ryan Dukarm at the eighth flight, as Dukarm dispatched Dylan Panichello (11-3, 11-8, 11-6). Yash Singh defeated Justin Esposito at the fifth flight, taking victory in four after dropping the first game, rallying for an 8-11, 11-8, 11-6, 11-3 victory.  Senior co-captain Alex Liu then ran into a tough challenge from Henry Poehlin at the seventh position, falling in four (11-4, 12-10, 4-11, 11-4).

Davis Chase won at the top spot on the ladder, prevailing in four after dropping the first game (8-11, 13-11, 11-7, 11-9). Keil Reedich then picked up a 13-11, 11-2, 11-5 sweep over Winthrop Reed at the fourth position.

The Fords pull to 18-8 all time against Fordham with the win.

In the late afternoon contest, Haverford matched up with Boston University, posting a 9-0 decision over the Terriers.

Weinberg gave Haverford the 1-0 lead with an 11-6, 11-8, 11-2 sweep over his opponent at the sixth position. The Fords went up 2-0 after Miller grabbed a sweep over Matthew Wallace at the third flight (11-6, 11-4, 11-2). Dukarm triumphed over his opponent in a sweep at the eighth spot, pulling Haverford to a 3-0 advantage with an 11-6, 11-2, 11-5 sweep.

Singh prevailed in four at the fifth flight (11-7, 4-11, 11-5, 11-3) and Dougherty clinched the victory at the second flight in an 11-5, 13-11, 11-7 sweep. Alex Liu defeated Jason Gao at the seventh flight, sweeping his opponent by scores of 11-6, 11-5, 11-4. Reedich swept DJ Reed at the fourth spot, (11-5, 11-4, 11-3), and Davis Chase prevailed over Parker Tonissi at the top flight in four games, rallying from a first game loss to take an 8-11, 11-4, 11-2, 11-3 victory. Aaron Witkin won by default at the ninth position.

The Fords are now 3-0 all-time against Boston University in a series that dates back to 2013.

Haverford will next host its annual Alumni Match on Saturday, November 17 at 1 p.m. before heading to Vassar for a pair of matches on December 1, taking on Colgate at noon before returning to face the host No. 34 Brewers at 3 p.m.
