CSA Scholar-Athletes

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Haverford College senior co-captains Davis Chase and Fitz Dougherty have joined junior Aaron Witkin in being named to College Squash Association (CSA) Scholar-Athlete honors. Chase and Dougherty each pick up the award for the second consecutive season while Witkin earns the honor in his first season of eligibility for the plaudit. The three CSA Scholar-Athlete selections matches a program record.

The Scholar-Athlete Award was granted this season to varsity juniors or seniors who have played on the team throughout their college career, have earned at least two varsity letters, would have been eligible to compete this season, and achieved a high academic standing at their institution. CSA Scholar Athletes embody the values of the association, achieving a high level of play on court while excelling in the classroom.

Chase, a Chemistry major from Pomfret, Conn, finished his abbreviated Haverford tenure with 32 career wins, playing primarily at the top flight for the Fords. He went 13-4 at the top flight during the 2019-20 season, and was picked to represent Haverford at the CSA Team Championships in Philadelphia at the end of the 2019-20 campaign.

Dougherty, an Environmental Studies major from nearby Villanova, Pa., went 6-3 at the second flight and an unblemished 7-0 at the third flight during the 2019-20 season. Dougherty, a Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area selection following the 2019 season, continued his impressive career as he finished his third full season tied for fifth in program history with 40 career wins. He will graduate Haverford as a record holder, as his .769 career winning percentage (40-12) is the best in program history among players with at least 15 individual match victories.

Witkin, a Spanish major from Bethesda, Md., has posted an 18-11 career record, and currently sits in seventh in program history in career winning percentage (.621) entering his senior season. He has appeared primarily in the eighth and ninth spots on the ladder for Haverford.

The Fords have reached new heights in the last four seasons as the team reached double-digit wins in each of the Class of 2021's three competitive seasons on campus and the squad has now had a winning record in each of the last four seasons overall, the first time in program history the Fords have had three or more consecutive winning seasons.
