Men's Squash Celebrates Senior Class at Centennial Round Robin

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The 30th-ranked Haverford College men's squash team (5-8) hosted the Centennial Conference Round Robin at the GIAC Squash Courts for the first time on Saturday, falling by 9-0 finals to No. 23 Dickinson (7-11) and No. 16 Franklin & Marshall (9-9) to conclude regular season action.

Prior to the late afternoon match with the Diplomats, the Fords honored their three seniors: Minor Reedich, Alden Weinberg, and Aaron Witkin. The trio has combined for 67 match wins over three competitive seasons on campus and left an indelible mark on a young program that saw seven players making their collegiate debuts in 2021-22.

Dickinson 9, Haverford 0

In the morning match with the Red Devils, Haverford struggled as a tough Dickinson side was able to establish momentum in the first round of matches to hit the courts. Haverford had one of its strongest performances of the morning at the sixth flight, with John Collins taking Aidan Ray to extra points in a back-and-forth third game that captivated the audience.

Weinberg and Witkin each had impressive turns at the seventh and ninth flights, proving to be thorns in the side of Patrick Noonan and Benjamin Gemma, respectively. Reedich similarly gave his opponent a challenge in an 11-9 second game before falling in the third game at the fourth flight.

Franklin & Marshall 9, Haverford 0

In the late afternoon tussle with the Diplomats, Garrett Fantini had a strong showing at the eighth flight, taking a commanding 11-7 victory in the third game against Flavo Hinostroza.

Witkin also turned in a third game victory over Blake Newcomer, forcing his opponent to a fourth with an 11-7 win of his own at the ninth. Ben Schiltz grabbed the second game from Allen Tompkins, prevailing 11-8 before narrow losses in the third and fourth games at the fifth flight.

The Fords will now gear up preparations for the CSA Team Championships, which will be hosted by the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia next weekend. Haverford will not have to travel far for the start of postseason action, which is slated to begin on February 18 and will continue through February 20. More information on brackets and scheduling is expected to be announced in the coming days.
